The Demetz Softness R in Blue-Black (53mm) suits older children and teens: a rigid TR90 core for protection, wrapped in non-slip rubber so it stays on during running and contact.
The Softness R is not a soft rubber frame, even though it feels like one. It is made by bi-injection: a rigid TR90 core for shape and protection, over-moulded with rubber at the nose, temples and edges. That gives a frame that grips a sweaty face without slipping, does not dig in, and flexes rather than snaps. An anti-dislodgement bevel around the lens groove helps keep the lens seated on impact. Supplied with its strap and a microfibre case.
Demetz designs and makes its frames in France as CE-marked optical frames built for sport: every size in the range takes a full prescription lens, and the bi-injection construction is what lets the frame absorb knocks and stay on the face.
Demetz is a French sports-optics house founded in 1950 by an optician and diver who built the first optical diving mask and, later, the first optical swimming goggles. Its frames are sold through opticians only, which is why you will not find Softness R on marketplace sites.

Size & fit
Lens 53mm · Bridge 16mm · Total width 130mm · Lens height 40mm.
Children’s sizing depends on face size more than age — we strongly recommend an in-store fitting at our Abu Dhabi store, or send us your child’s current frame measurements on WhatsApp. A sports goggle that is too big slides on impact; too small and the strap pinches.
Which lens should you choose?
Sports frames need a lens that will not shatter. Ordinary plastic (CR-39) lenses can crack into sharp pieces when a ball or elbow hits them, so we never fit them in a sports frame. Every lens below is chosen for impact safety first:
- Polycarbonate (standard) — our default sports lens. Very impact-resistant, light, and it blocks UV on its own. The right choice for most prescriptions up to ±6.00.
- Trivex (upgrade, prescriptions up to ±3.50) — the same shatter resistance as polycarbonate, but lighter and with noticeably sharper, clearer optics. Worth it if you wear the goggles for long sessions.
- Tribrid (upgrade, ±3.51 to ±6.00) — for moderate prescriptions. Thinner and lighter than polycarbonate at the same power, while keeping impact resistance. Avoids the thick-edge look on stronger minus powers.
- 1.60 MR-8 photochromic — choose this when you want a lens that darkens outdoors or a tinted finish. Clear indoors, up to around 50% dark in sunlight.
- Polycarbonate Transitions Gen S — the fastest-reacting light-adaptive option in a shatter-resistant material. Up to 70% dark outdoors, fully clear indoors. Ideal for outdoor sport in the UAE sun.
- 1.67 high index (above ±6.00) — for strong prescriptions, a thinner and lighter lens that still sits properly in the frame. It is not impact-rated like polycarbonate or Trivex, so our optometrist will advise on the best balance of thickness and protection for your sport. Available clear, photochromic grey, or with Transitions Gen S.
Prescriptions above ±9.00 are handled personally — send us your prescription on WhatsApp and we will confirm what this frame can take.
For children we fit polycarbonate or Trivex only. Both are the impact-resistant materials recommended for kids’ eyewear; our optometrist will advise which suits your child’s prescription at fitting.

Why buy kids’ sports goggles from Optic One
Optic One is a DOH-licensed optical store in Abu Dhabi with free delivery across Dubai and all UAE, and shipping to the GCC and worldwide. Every pair is glazed and checked by our optometrist-led team — lenses are centred to your pupils, which matters more in a curved sports frame than in everyday glasses. Visit our Abu Dhabi store for in-person fitting, or order online with expert support on WhatsApp. Home try-on is available in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Kids’ goggles only work if they fit properly and stay on during play — we adjust the strap or temples, check the bridge sits right, and give honest advice on size. All Demetz frames are 100% genuine and covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturer defects.
Frequently asked questions
Why can’t I use my normal glasses lenses in a sports frame?
Standard CR-39 plastic and glass lenses can shatter into sharp pieces on impact. Sports frames are glazed only with polycarbonate, Trivex or Tribrid, which absorb a hit without breaking. Polycarbonate is included as the standard option on this frame.
Polycarbonate or Trivex — which is better for sport?
Both are shatter-resistant. Polycarbonate is the standard and suits most prescriptions. Trivex is lighter with sharper optics, so it is the better choice if you wear the goggles for long sessions or have a light prescription (up to ±3.50). For ±3.51 to ±6.00, Tribrid gives a thinner lens.
Can I get these with lenses that darken in the sun?
Yes. Choose Photochromic in the lens selector: 1.60 MR-8 grey (up to about 50% dark) or polycarbonate Transitions Gen S (faster, up to 70% dark). For prescriptions above ±6.00 the same options come in 1.67 high index.
Does the Demetz Softness R come with a strap?
Yes — the adjustable strap is included.
Is the Softness R a soft frame?
It feels soft because of the rubber over-moulding, but the core is rigid TR90. That is what gives it protection — a fully soft frame would not hold a lens safely on impact.
What age does this fit?
Face size matters more than age. Send us your child’s current frame measurements or a photo on WhatsApp and we will confirm.
I’m not sure what size is right for me. How can I make sure I get the right size?
Use our home try-on service in Dubai and Abu Dhabi: choose the frames you want to compare, try them at home, and keep only the one that fits. You can also send us a photo wearing your current glasses, or the measurements printed inside their temple arm, on WhatsApp and we will tell you which size to order. Visiting Abu Dhabi? Come to the store and we will fit it in person.
Do you deliver to Dubai?
Yes — free delivery across Dubai and all UAE. Home try-on is available in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and you can visit our Abu Dhabi store for fitting.
Do you ship prescription sports goggles to Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait or Bahrain?
Yes. We ship prescription sports goggles to Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain, and worldwide. Send us your prescription and frame size on WhatsApp; we glaze the lenses in Abu Dhabi, check the fit, and courier the finished pair to you. Shipping cost and delivery time are confirmed before you pay.
